KTWU Wins EMMY for Public Service
Kansas Youth Empowerment Academy Campaign Awarded

KTWU, local public television, is pleased to announce the public service campaign "Disability Pride" has been awarded an Emmy Award in the 2012 competition.

KTWU's award from the Heartland Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is in recognition of the television announcements in the Community/Public Service Campaign category.

The announcements were produced by John Njagi at KTWU on behalf of the Kansas Youth Empowerment Academy.

The Kansas Youth Empowerment Academy serves youth with disabilities all across the state of Kansas and is located in Topeka. The KYEA mission is to educate, mentor, and support youth with disabilities to be contributing members of their community. With funding from Kansas Rehabilitation Services and from the Kansas Legislature, KYEA officially opened its doors on October 1, 2005.

The Emmy Award, often referred to simply as the Emmy, is a television production award, and is considered the television equivalent to the Academy Awards (for film), Grammy Awards (for music) and Tony Awards (for stage). They are presented in various sectors of the television industry, including entertainment programming, news and documentary shows, and sports programming. This year's winners were announced at the Heartland Chapter Emmy Awards Presentation Ceremony on July 21, 2012.
