KS YLF 2001 Delegates



Thirty delegates participated in the first annual KS YLF. Below is a list of these delegates and where they are from. Some delegates also have updates under their name. Lawrence

Lisa definitely feels that she speaks out more. Speaking out more includes being very involved with self advocate groups on the local and state level. Lisa has been involved in The Self-Advocates of Douglas County, The Self-Advocates of Kansas (SACK), Natural Ties through The University of Kansas, the REACH program through her church, and the Coffeehouse. She graduated high school in 2001 and, in her spare time, enjoys weight lifting, listening to music, and dancing.

Carrie-
Topeka

Carrie graduated from high school in 2001 and just recently graduated from Kaw Area Technical School in Topeka. She is studying Graphic Design and plans to continue her education at Washburn University in the Fall of 2002. Carrie is currently the KS YLF website and newsletter designer. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to music, singing, shopping, reading, and art. Carrie says that she is happy to have been a part of the first KS Youth Leadership Forum.

Jennifer H.-
Nickerson

As a senior at Nickerson High School, Jennifer was involved in various activities. She enjoyed participating in the SAVE/SADD club and an all girl's choir group. She was also working at the mall and at a daycare. In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys reading, writing, spending time with friends, and listening to music. She feels that the leadership skills learned at the Youth Leadership Forum have been helpful.

Jeffery-
Wellington

Jeffery graduated from high school in 2001. He is currently working full time at Dillions and says that keeps him busy. When he's not working, Jeffery enjoys drawing and doing many different things. He says his favorite part of the Youth Leadership Forum was being with everyone and getting to know more people. Jeffery definitely would recommend the YLF to other teens.

Joshua K.-
Lawrence

Josh was a senior at Free State High School last year. He was actively involved in Boy Scouts and is currently trying to achieve his Eagle Award. In his spare time, Josh enjoys cooking. He feels that he learned a lot about the government during the Youth Leadership Forum.

David-
Leawood

David was a senior at SM South High School in Overland Park last year. While at school, he was actively involved in Student Council and various service clubs. He spends time at his job now, and also enjoys watching professional wrestling. David says that he once used the leadership skills learned at the Youth Leadership Forum by assisting a severely disabled student at his school. Many other opportunities have been opened up for him as well.

Raymond-
Centralia

As a senior at Centralia High School last year, Ray was actively involved in sports. Aside from high school, he was also enrolled at Beloit Vocational/Technical School. In his spare time, Raymond enjoys working on cars and collecting coins. He feels that the Youth Leadership Forum helped him to learn how to prepare for college. He also feels that it helped him in his everyday life.

After attending the Youth Leadership Forum in 2001, Carmen has been very involved in the disabled community. She attended the Kansas Disability Caucus in Topeka and was trying to push for electric doors on the YMCA in her town. Some of her hobbies include reading, writing, hanging out with friends, reading letters, and collecting key chains. As a senior at Hutchinson High School, Carmen feels that the YLF helped her to be more social.

Hays

Jerree says she would definitely recommend the Youth Leadership Forum to other teens. She also says that her favorite activity throughout the week was the talent show. Jerree recently graduated from Hays High School. Next year, she plans to attend Highland Community College where she will major in Photography. She enjoys taking pictures, listening to music, and hanging out with friends and family.

While a senior at Belleville High School, Adam kept himself busy in various activities. He was involved in track, 4-H, FFA, FCA, Scholar’s Bowl, Science Club, Student Council, Show Choir, Pep Band, Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Marching Band. He also really enjoyed watching and playing football. In his spare time, Adam enjoys cruising Belleville, chatting with friends, and having fun. He feels that the best part of the Youth Leadership Forum was meeting new people. He also feels that he learned a lot that week.

Kaley-
Rose Hill

Kaley says she had a great summer at the 2001 Youth Leadership Forum. She graduated from high school in 2001 and is currently working full-time at Walmart. Kaley enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and playing games on the computer. She feels that the best part of the YLF was meeting new people and making friends.
